“Roped In”
A Rope Bottoming Intensive Weekend
August 21 - 23, 2026
Class List
While this weekend is focused on the persons in rope it does not mean we won’t be tying or that the information covered isn’t relevant to rope tops. Bottoms need tops at this intensive just as much as tops would need a bottom for another types of rope bondage related classes.

How do we make offerings to our riggers? How do we communicate through our bodies ideas and permission to explore uncharted territory? As riggers, how do we facilitate or get in the way of our own capacity to listen better? This class is a partials based class and participants should have at least one comfortable upper body harness (ideally arms in) that they both feel confident with in a variety of loading positions.
-
In this workshop we aim to trouble the binary of "active" and "passive" bottoming, and instead explore the numerous offerings that live on the spectrum within and between these two modes. This class is a partials based class and uses very simple tying techniques to explore physically strenuous positions.

Do you feel like a good rope bottom? Is there a version of yourself in rope that you’re trying to grow into?
Rope bottoming can come with expectations - to be adaptable, to be resilient, to not disrupt the flow. Over time, those expectations can blur the line between surrender and self-abandonment.
This guided discussion creates space to reflect on your own experiences of “getting it right” and “getting it wrong,” and what those moments have taught you. We’ll explore how self-awareness, communication, and intention shape not just safe experiences, but more meaningful ones.
We’ll also look at what happens when things don’t go as expected. How do you assess your role, your boundaries, and your communication? What does accountability look like, both to yourself and your partner? This class aims to challenge the idea that there is a “right” way to bottom, and instead support participants in building a grounded, intentional approach rooted in agency and self-awareness.

People often describe rope as a place where their mind “goes quiet.” But when you start paying attention, there’s often much more there. Thoughts. Emotions. Reactions. Narratives. Shifts that happen over time.
We often talk about rope in terms of shapes, technical skills, and external experiences, but the internal landscape can be just as complex and elusive...and less often discussed. Rope isn’t just something that happens to your body. How does rope feel from the inside? Not just sensations….but thoughts, emotions, and the quieter experiences that are harder to name and may change over time.
We’ll look at what might be happening beneath the surface, turn inwards, and examine how it may allow you to connect more deeply, communicate more clearly, and build fulfilling experiences.
-
Backbends show up everywhere in rope…but most bottoms are never taught how to actively support them, and most tops are left guessing what’s actually happening inside the body.
This class breaks down what’s happening in thespine, shoulders, and hips during extension-based positions, and how both partners can work with the shape instead of forcing it. Bottoms will learn how to distribute load, anatomy, and recognize early warning signs. Tops will learn what to look for, how to adjust based on what they’re seeing, and how to build positions that are sustainable rather than performative. Expect practical drills, position modifications, and shared language you can immediately bring into your tying.
Who this is for: Bottoms who want to feel safer and more in control in backbends, and tops who want to build and manage backbend/extension positions with more precision and care.
-
You don’t need to memorize anatomy charts to stay safe. But you do need to understand how bodies respond to load. This class is designed for bottoms who want to better understand their own bodies and for tops who want to move beyond surface-level safety cues. How do you take care of your body in rope? By taking care of it out of rope. We’ll cover muscles, nerves, joints, circulation, and tissue tolerance through real rope scenarios, focusing on how injuries actually develop over time. Bottoms will leave with tools to advocate for their bodies and make informed decisions mid-scene. Tops will leave with a clearer framework for interpreting anatomy and ways to avoid rigger-centric injuries due to overuse, age, and just generally lifting bodies.
Who this is for: Bottoms who want practical tools to prevent injury, and tops who want a deeper, functional understanding of anatomy in rope.
-
Your experience in rope is shaped just as much by your communication as your body’s abilities: and this is where bottoms have more influence than they think. This class is about developing the skills to guide, influence, and build the tops you tie with, while also giving tops insight into what kind of feedback actually helps them improve. Bottoms will learn how to give clear, actionable feedback, set expectations, and create conditions where their top can succeed. Tops will learn how to receive and apply that feedback in a live suspension sequence. Together, we’ll bridge the gap between intention and experience so your ties become more aligned, more intentional, and more collaborative over time.
Who this is for: Bottoms who want better, more aligned rope experiences, and tops who want to grow faster by understanding and integrating partner feedback.

As we find our way in rope we learn about our bodies, discover our voice, but honesty can be one of the most difficult things to navigate. Not just honesty with our partners but being truly honest with ourselves. Some of the pitfalls that befuddle us can be navigated and rooted out through rigorous honesty. This offering will be a lecture/discussion of why we do the things we do, why we want the things we want, the things we don’t want to talk about, and how to traverse a very nuanced environment both internally and externally as we discover what’s dancing beneath the surface or buried a little deeper.
