Rope Influenced Presenters
Midnight Shibari (he/him) is a medical professional who has been an active member of the Michigan scene for nearly a decade. He has served as a local educator and performer of Shibari in the Detroit area and has previously presented at Boundless in 2024 & SMIRC (Summer Michigan Rope Conference).
I_am_Her - Emily (she/her) is a rope bottom and submissive who has been a member of the Detroit kink community since 2022. Leaning heavily into sadistic and challenging rope has helped mold her Shibari journey and growth as a rope bottom. She has been a local educator in Detroit and has presented at Boundless Detroit Symposium 2025. She is also a mental health advocate and her spiritual nature makes energy play her main way to connect with others on all levels. As an exhibitionist she thrives on public events and meeting other like minded individuals on their kink journey. Kindness is her religion and kink is her passion.
Drawing from his medical background, Midnight_Shibari prioritizes safety and informed consent in all his classes, especially when it comes to his favorites involving sadistic rope and torture ties. While many aspects of BDSM and rope bondage may not be deemed "safe," he aims to demonstrate safer approaches, ensuring that everyone leaves with practical skills and valuable knowledge to prevent injury while still encouraging those screams, cries, moans, and laughs!
Breaking Down the Daruma
The Daruma tie is an iconic Shibari position that takes inspiration from the Daruma dolls in Japanese culture. It can be a challenging technical tie for rope tops and a physically demanding position for rope bottoms. In this class, we’ll break down the structure, mechanics, and safety considerations needed to confidently apply this tie along with variations that still capture the essence of the “Daruma”.
