In this one-day workshop we will study fundamental techniques for iconic hashira shibari.

Hashira Shibari is the Japanese inspired rope bondage art of tying someone to an upright post, beam, or column. Translating to "pole or pillar binding," this advanced technique restricts movement by pressing the partner against a stationary surface, creating deep immobility, intense weight distribution, and strong erotic tension.

Before modern ceiling suspensions and bamboo rigs, tying to architectural pillars (or hashira) was the standard method of choice in historic Japanese homes. The post can act as a rigid anchor point to achieve kneeling, seated, standing, or partial suspension scenes.

Saturday Morning: Using the Pole as a Co-Top
The pole is much more than just a series of hard points. It is an imposing physical character in the scene. This session will teach: (1) the breadth of play possibilities on the pole; (2) how pole play can be a series of dynamic transitions through a continuous D/s experience, and (3) how time on the pole can actually teach the players the skill of giving and receiving dominant touch.

This session will also teach additional variations of “classic” hashira suspension that was introduced the night before

Saturday Afternoon: Pole Variations
This session will go beyond the “classic” hashira suspension and cover other variations such has side suspension, full inversion, and vertical hog ties.
All student levels welcome. Those intending on tying should have a solid understand of sustainable upper and lower body harness plus a working understanding of basic uplines and lock offs. Anyone at any level is welcome to observe, learn and tie to their own skill level.
This class is designed for tying pairs though there is still lots of value to be had for individuals auditing the class. Often others attend without tying partners. There is opportunity for solo attendees to connect during the social hours on Friday night.
Attendees that plan on tying should bring notebooks and 6-12 hanks of 5mm-6mm rope at 8-10 meter in length.
