Participants will leave these workshops with a better sense of self, a better connection with their partner and a wider perspective of Japanese inspired rope bondage or other BDSM/kink education and skills. Scroll for current class listings.
Learn techniques to perform a variety of rope ties necessary for safe and effective Shibari -OR- the techniques and training for kink play, these class are focused on BDSM education. Understand the physical, aesthetic and psychological aspects of connection through rope and/or kink.
Explore with your partner and other participants with consent.

We call bullshit. The tea analogy is great for 101, and in many contexts, sufficient and effective. But we kinksters can complicate anything. In this class, we’re going to explore a few ways that consent is as simple as producing a Phoenix single-bush oolong tea from scratch. (The internet says that’s not simple at all.)
This class isn’t about rules; it’s about reckoning with complexity. Together we’ll unpack the edges of consent, examining how it shifts under power, silence, trauma, and desire. Expect a mix of discussion, scenario analysis, and some uncomfortable questions, because that’s where the good stuff lives. Bring curiosity, empathy, and your favorite tea.

Xeno is your friendly neighborhood sadist. His favorite kinks include rope, knives, rough body play, and raw vulnerability – generally, with a heavy emphasis on pain. As a presenter, he values inclusivity and adaptability, and strives to make his classes work for the attendees, rather than the other way around. He has enjoyed planning, hosting, and presenting at various events since 2016, and is currently a member of the Board of Education TNG Committee. Serena is sweet as can be! So, naturally, she paired up with a sadist to strike a perfect balance. She entered the community in early 2021, and quickly discovered her home here. Since then, she's spent her time fostering friendships, serving the community, learning all the kinky things, and exploring her interests. In general, she’s drawn to bottoming and dabbles in topping, but her love for receiving mean rope remains constant and true. December 11th: Rope/Shibari Workshop- “Almost Airborne” with Midnight_Shibari (JJ)

Full suspension is often seen by many as the “peak” of Shibari — the moment the body finally leaves the ground. But what about the moment right before lift-off? That intense nervous excitement that builds as weight is progressively suspended…but not fully! In this class, we’ll be teaching a partial suspension sequence that highlights those feelings. We’ll showcase the versatility of partials by playing with elevation while still grounded, adding in a horizontal plane of motion in suspension, and progressively increasing the challenge with every transition!
Prerequisites/Tools: single-column tie; suspendable upper body harness; 6-8 hanks of 7-8m rope; safety shears or similar rope cutting tool

Midnight Shibari JJ (he/him)
A medical professional and long-standing member of the Michigan kink community with over a decade of experience. Based in the Detroit area, he has served as both an educator and performer of Shibari, presenting at events such as Boundless 2024 at Oblige and the Summer Michigan Rope Conference (SMIRC).
Combining his medical expertise with his passion for rope, Midnight emphasizes safety, informed consent, and body awareness in every class. His teaching often explores both the intensity and artistry of sadistic and torture-style ties, as well as more technical forms and suspension sequences. He acknowledges that rope and BDSM always carry some risk—but through mindful, safety-focused techniques, he helps participants explore their limits with confidence, care, and plenty of room for laughter and connection.

-SirMark-, he/they, is a longtime kink community member, teacher, and leader. His work in Fashion Shibari blends intricate knot patterns with highlights of color to create works of art.
Much of his practice draws on real-world inspiration, such as his “Seven Sins” series, his themed holiday designs, and his designs “Gilded Ice” and “Your Serenity”. Mark’s work incorporates meditations on asymmetrical elements, the inclusion of rings and non-tension elements, and the intricacy of holistic design from a series of basic elements. His Training comes from Classes in Detroit, Lansing, and Chicago.
Outside of his work in Fashion Shibari, Mark has co-led Lansing Rope Jam and Knotty Northwest, multiple local munches, social events and is a cofounder of the Notorious Munch. He has been a regular participant in rope challenges on Fetlife, showcasing his own efforts as well as proposing challenges and highlighting work by other members of the community. Mark is well-known in the local community as a positive leader who advocates safety, consent, and education for all kink-related activities.
Sar-cass-tic, she/they, a rope switch, self tier, medical player, disability advocate, instigator of shenanigans, and lover of learning, Cass has been in the kink community since 2023. The last 2 years she has been teaching with Sir Mark starting as a class bottom. From there Cass slowly began to learn how to tie in order to better help students and TA; she now co-presents with Mark and is just starting her journey standing alone as an instructor. Gaining much of her experience through involvement in Lansing Rope Jam, co-founding Knotty Northwest, attending classes throughout the state, as well as rope conferences within the Midwest. She has a passion for experimenting with new ideas, problem solving how to make rope work with her Ehlers Danlos syndrome as well as other health issues, and helping others do the same. Cass approaches both learning and teaching with consent, curiosity, and safety at the forefront.
December 26th: Rope/Shibari Workshop- “Pre-Flight Check List” Flynn & Rose

6” or 6’ off the ground all rope suspensions rely on one common element to achieve flight, the upline(s), we have liftoff!
In this class @Flynn_racerand @Rose-in-rope will cover the essentials needed before you take off for flight. They will go over Upline mechanics, upline management, upline harness attachment, upline hardpoint lock off, and upline saftey.Target audience: suspension curious rope enthusiasts with a good knowledge of the fundamentals and harnesses.
Class goal: provide upline knowlege and skills to safely take flight. And to utilize proper upline management to create a partial suspension, or take your first flight.
Class requirements: knowledge of a chest harness within your risk profile to suspend in. Knowledge of single column tie. (Bonus if you have knowledge of a hip harness within your risk profile to suspend in)

January 1st: Rope/Shibari Workshop -“All You Need, to Do All the Things” With Flynn & emmie
Week 1 of a 4 Week Intro to Erotic Rope Bondage and Shibari.

Celebrating five years of LEAP classes with a new experience for some, refresher for others and hopefully some new tricks for the more experienced in the room.
In week 1 of 4 @Flynn_Racer and @-emmie will be looking at Single Columns, Double Columns and Hojo Cuffs. Several different ways to use these very basic ties to build an erotic rope bondage scene on the floor. Not only are these foundational ties needed for shibari but these are very useful for introducing someone to rope and erotic rope bondage without fancy patterns. It’s just tying people up, down, and to themselves.
It can get cold during class so bring a blanket!!!
-You’ll need rope. 1-3 full ropes (24-30’). If you don’t have rope, we sell and rent it.

Flynn Racer is a seasoned kink educator with over fifteen years of shibari experience, beginning his journey through the lens of artistic photography. As the co-owner and co-operator of Oblige Rope Boutique, he blends creative expression with technical precision, offering students a thoughtful, intentional approach to rope and connection.
Beyond rope, Flynn is deeply passionate about pipe and mechanical bondage, a love directly inspired by his career in structural engineering. His engineering background fuels his fascination with innovative restraint design, shaping the uniquely hands-on, problem-solving nature of his classes. A dominant, a daddy, and an ever-curious kinkster, he has taught a wide array of shibari, bondage, and BDSM classes across the community. Whether instructing newcomers or seasoned practitioners, Flynn brings a genuine desire to keep learning and to help others grow alongside him.
January 8th: Rope/Shibari Workshop - “Minimalistic Ties” With Flynn & emmie
Week 2 of a 4 Week Intro to Erotic Rope Bondage and Shibari. (Week 1 not required)

In this class @Flynn_Racer and @-emmie- will focus on minimalistic ties used to start your rope bondage journey or to add to your list of “go to” fun things you can do quickly for floor play, warm ups or add another layer to your dynamic rope scene. With all these ties we will focus on rope handling, flow and holding tensions to increase the confidence and connection for both the person applying rope and the person receiving rope.

This week we continue our erotic rope bondage journey. This week @ChiefDaddyJokes and @UsagiMami will be focusing on motion and intension as we manipulate bodies and apply rope in a way to form classic shibari shapes. Those new to rope will leaner a bit more of what’s possible while experienced practitioners can take a look back at some playful ties that can be re-introduced to your rope scenes.

When there are five Thursdays in a month, we skip class, order in a bunch of pizza and through a good old fashion play party

No class this week. No formal performances. Instead, we’re bringing in some pizza, dragging all the furniture out, and having a good old-fashioned play party. Play as you wish within the rules until midnight, this week.
